TENNIS ANYONE?
Living here I’ve always taken advantage and enjoyed the beautiful beaches, the fantastic food and all the other things Charleston has to offer. I’ve always been a fan of the game of tennis and last weekend I had one of best experiences ever in Charleston. I attended the Family Circle Cup tournament during the day and that night John McEnroe and Jim Courier played an exhibition match. After I had witnessed McEnroe beat Courier, they then came back out on the court along with Anna Kournikova and Monica Seles for a mixed doubles exhibition match. Not only was I thrilled that I was getting to see these tennis greats, but the icing on the cake was that they put microphones on each of them and the crowd got to hear everything they said. It was hilarious. At one point, during the singles match between McEnroe and Courier, McEnroe decided to rile up the crowd by playing with the Umpire and yelling “YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS” It was a first for me seeing McEnroe play. I had seen Jim Courier play in the men’s finals of the 1991 US Open against Stefan Edberg. Although a smaller venue, the Family Circle Cup at Daniel Island is just as awesome. Not only did I have a great time but it reminded me that we are fortunate to have the tennis stadium on Daniel Island and all the events that it brings. I also decided that since I love tennis and at one time played, to start attending a weekly tennis clinic to get back to playing.
If you have an interest in playing tennis, you might want to look into some of the clinics that they have around town.

It sounds like there’s more to Charleston than just it’s beautiful beaches and savory restaurants! Good reporting Jacquie!
