August Arts & Entertainment in the LowCountry
There will be two Moonlight Mixers this month. The dances on the 29th will spotlight Shagging on the Pier at Folly Beach.
Hootie and the Blowfish will return on the 15th for their Annual Homegrown Concert at the Family Circle Magazine Stadium on Daniel Island. The group has always encouraged concertgoers to bring school supplies as a donation. It’s been so successful in the past that the group is basing their entire 24 city tour on giving to the economically disadvantaged and will conclude the tour here where it all began.
The Reggae Summer Concert Series continues at James Island County Park on the evening of the16th with Dubconscious from Athens, GA. The series runs monthly each summer at the park.
The Dances of Universal Peace will be performed at Gage Hall (4 Archdale) also on the evening of the16th. Sufi dancing is part of an ageless tradition of participatory meditative circle dance.
Chamber Music Charleston will perform a program of music at the Old Exchange Building on the evening of the 16th. It will include Francaix Divertissement for oboe, clarinet and bassoon and a Vivaldi Concerto for oboe, clarinet, bassoon and harpsichord.
Downtown Summerville will host DREAMfest on the 21st. It is billed as a gathering of exhibits, entertainment and refreshments. Concerts will be held at Hutchinson Square. DREAM is the Town’s non-profit revitalization organization.
