In Honor of 9/11 – An American Day of Reflection
I just wanted to share what was written by Trish Bender, an agent in our Folly Road office in honor of 9/11.
In honor of 9/11, this American Day of Reflection, I offer roses.
The Red Rose symbolizes courage and dignity. I offer this to all who lost their lives on 9/11. I offer it to our soliders who have fought for our liberty in all wars and to all who continue to fight to defend our freedom. It took courage to build America. It takes courage to keep America free. As citizens I hope that we will honor that freedom in our individual lives, stay brave when faced with tough decisions and stay focused in our desire to continue to move forward not backwards.
The White Rose symbolizes purity, innocence, reverence and humility. I offer this rose to all who lost loved ones on that tragic day. May we remember that America will always represent the best in us. That we will remain true to our ideals and respectful of our differences, humbly asking forgiveness for our errors and higher direction in our purpose. It is never easy to recover from tragedy, but remembering who we are and what we revere helps us at least find the direction we need to continue, not in spite our losses but by gaining strength from them. May we use this day as an opportunity to bury our ignorance and hatred, adopting optimism and hope instead.
In nature there are many examples of recovery after disaster, trees that require wildfires to sprout their seeds, special mycology that breaks down hazardouse materials and converts them into viable nutrients, entire ecosystems designed to rebuild in the aftermath. As we think about American tragedies and the opportunities they manifest, it would behoove us to look to nature for new direction, adopting a reverence for the natural order of things and gaining the courage and to fortitude to rebuild. After all, we are America the Beautiful, you and me. What we do, how we treat each other, what we work for, hope for, dream of, that’s what makes up the tapestry of our nation. God Bless America. God Bless Americans.
