According to an article written in USA Today, in the year 1942 Edward Seabrook Sr., a local securities dealer, bought most of the Folly Beach island, 1,000 acres, for just $5,000. Over the next five decades Seabrook and his son, Edward Jr., developed 90-% of the island.
